The Liebster Blog Award

Wanna hear something really exciting?  I've won my first blogging award!  The wonderful Emily @ Recipes to Nourish has tagged me with The Liebster Blog Award, which is passed to up and coming bloggers who have fewer than 200 followers.  Liebster is a German word meaning dear, sweet, kind, nice, good, beloved, lovely, kindly, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing and welcome....and I am so humbled that my blog and I are in any way connected to these kind terms!

Having just started blogging in July, I am just amazed at how quickly my little project has grown, and how positively my readers have reacted.  The blogging community (especially the mom blogging community) has been so welcoming and charmingly warm-hearted... I've never done any other type of project or work where my efforts were so consistently encouraged.  Thank you so much, all of you!

Emily was the first blogger I ever followed.  Her recipes kept catching my eye at every link party I visited, and it was from reading her blog that I realized I could link my own posts to these cool parties.  I guess you could call her my invisible mentor :)  I would see where she was linking up, then tag along and link up in the same place.  At times I worried she would start to think of me as some kind of kitchen-based stalker, so imagine my delight when she chose my blog as one of her top five favorites!  Please take a minute to stop by Recipes to Nourish and enjoy some of Emily's sophisticated, delicately wholesome creations.  Emily's recipes are all gluten free, refined sugar free, peanut free, potato free, pork free, and almost always nut free, soy free, corn free, bean free and legume free.

The rules for the Liebster Award are:

1. Thank the giver and link back to the blogger who gave it to you.

2. Reveal your top 5 picks and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.

3. Copy and paste the award on your blog.
4. Have faith that your followers will spread the love to other bloggers.
5. And most of all - have fun!
It was SO HARD to choose just five of my favorite small blogs... I love reading so many different sites, finding inspiration for cooking, dealing with allergies, feeding children... if I could spend all day learning new things from all these talented writers, I would.  That said, I did finally choose five "young" blogs that radiate energy, creativity and talent.  As you read through these blogs, you'll see that the enthusiasm of these bloggers is tangible.  Please enjoy the amazing content they have to offer, and sign up to follow them... it really is a thrill to new bloggers to see those "follower" numbers increase!  (P.S. I've listed them alphabetically.)

Five Blogs That I Love:

Mrs Ed’s Research and Recipes -- This determined mom is dealing with autism, food allergies, Celiac disease, Crohn's disease, chronic constipation, severely picky eaters and snoring :) Known as Mrs. Ed (read the cute story on her blog about why!), she shares research on food allergies, auto-immune issues, autism and the role of food in health.  Her recipes are grain-free, gluten-free, bakers yeast-free, refined sugar free, corn free, potato free, and low in lactose.

Premeditated Leftovers -- Alea blogs about living fully while spending less. In addition to her delicious gluten free and dairy free recipes, she writes engaging and informative posts about eco-friendly living, frugality, homeschooling and gardening.  Alea also hosts two fun blog hops -- the Hearth and Soul Hop featuring foods that nourish both body and soul, and the Gallery of Favorites, a great weekend wrap up of favorite posts of all types.

Raia’s Recipes -- This adorable, vintage-themed blog features recipes that are free of a variety of allergens, including dairy, gluten, egg, and occasionally sugar.  Raia's recipes are simple and straightforward, and make it easy for the newly-allergen-free cook to try some of the unusual ingredients that our mothers never taught us to cook with, like chia seeds, tapioca flour, and arrowroot powder.  Did I mention that her design is stunning?

Real Food Freaks -- Jen and Leslie live in different states, but work together to advance the real food movement on their joint blog. They write vividly about improving health by returning to historical food production and food preparation practices.  Their educational posts expose the misdirection of popular food culture, and encourage sustainable habits to support the environment.  Their link party, Freaky Friday, features a variety of real food recipes and instructional posts, including their own.

To The Moon and Back -- This clever mom blogs about cooking, decorating and her family, and shares a lot of great ideas for the food-allergic child.  Her recipes are free of peanuts, tree nuts, and often dairy and eggs.  Her Packed With Love posts feature the absolutely darling lunchboxes she packs for her daughter, full of healthy, creative foods and sweet decorations that make an ordinary lunch enchanted.

I couldn't compile a list of my favorite blogs without including a shout-out to WiiWizard, a young fellow I happen to know very well who writes about the video game Mario Bros at the site, Enemies of Mario.  If you know any fans of video gaming who'd like to learn more about Mario strategy, send them over to visit the WiiWizard :)

Happy surfing everyone!
