Cherry Chocolate Smoothies and Lunchbox Love 12

Welcome to our weekly Friday feature, Allergy Friendly Lunchbox Love!  This link party is specifically for your dishes that will travel well in a lunchbox, and if they're free of some (or all) of the top eight food allergens, that's even better :)

Today I am totally and completely in the Christmas spirit -- my decorations are up, my tree is in the house, and the holiday music is playing in the kitchen and in the car!  I'm in such a good mood I thought I'd share some holiday happiness with the kids in their lunchboxes.  Normally they just get water to drink, but today some little elves put Cherry Chocolate Smoothies in their thermos bottles!

This yummy beverage is so easy to make you almost don't need a recipe.  Just mix together 1 cup of Rice Dream chocolate rice milk and 6 Tbsp cherry juice from a jar of pitted sour cherries (I used Marco Polo brand).  That's it (for one serving)!  I prefer the Rice Dream brand of chocolate "milk" to all the others we've tried because it's so thick (that's why I'm calling this drink a smoothie rather than chocolate milk).  The cherries are not a pie filling (no corn syrup, no gelatinous stuff holding them together), but rather just a jar of cherries and sugar in water.  The water happens to be red and super-sweet, so it's a terrific addition to the very thick milk.  You've got to try this - I just sucked down a cup in about 20 seconds.

Now let's have a look at an inspiring submission from last week's Lunchbox Love party.   The Humbled Homemaker brought us some amazing Allergen Free Pumpkin Spice Donut Holes made without dairy, eggs, gluten or soy.  Stop by her blog for all the details.

  1. I'm linking up my stock recipe. While not technically a lunchbox recipe - use it as a base for your favorite soup to take along for lunch in a thermos. Thanks for hosting! --S

  10. I am SO honored you featured my post! I didn't link back up this week because my recipe this week has peanut butter in it. Not sure if that would interest your readers? But it IS gluten and dairy free. I hope you enjoy the donut holes! They are so yummy!
