Virtual Allergy-Friendly Birthday Party

Vintage Milkshake Glasses at Etsy

In honor of my oldest son's 13th birthday, today we'll all eat too much sugar at an Allergy-Friendly Virtual Birthday Party!

Baking without gluten, eggs and dairy is a challenge, to say the least... which means that good allergy-free birthday cakes are not found on every corner.  Combine this hurdle with the daunting element of feeding guests... small guests.... small guests who aren't used to eating allergy-free foods with their unusual colors and textures... and you may be in for a meltdown at birthday time (for you, not your child!)

With this in mind, I surfed the 'Net this week and created my fantasy allergy-friendly birthday party menu from a wide range of great food blogs... be sure to click the links to see the original posts and find the details of the recipes.  I've chosen foods that are kid-friendly and look "normal" so non-allergic friends are more likely to try them!  Many thanks to all the great cooks and writers out there who graciously gave me permission to use their masterpieces :)  Welcome to the party, and happy virtual birthday!

  1. Too bad this is a virtual party, because it looks delicious and I want to come! Thanks for the links to some amazing recipes, and thanks for including my chips! :)

  2. Hi I'm a new follower from Cure for the Common Monday.

Your treats look amazingly yummy! And I love the vintage milkshake glasses!

  3. Great ideas. I teach a little boy at church with food allergies and this is good information.

  4. Great menu! I always struggle with the food for birthday parties for my son, so this past one (on Sunday), I just went easy and unhealthy: lunchmeat (although most of it was nitrate-nitrite-free), chips, chips & salsa, fresh fruits and veggies. I did make some great cake pops using a GF wacky cake, homemade frosting, and chocolate chips for dipping. I love your ideas here!

  5. I love how creative you are with allergy free foods. This is such a good reminder that with some creativity you can have a party within any dietary perimeters.
I would love it if you would share these ideas at my October "It's a Celebration" link party here!

  6. What a great idea! That was brilliant of you to create a resource like this for families who are dealing with the dilemma of allergy-free birthdays (or any days). Thanks for doing the leg-work and for sharing this with us at Rub Some Dirt On It!
